Irish Rail expects up to 400,000 Intercity journeys

Christmas time is usually one of the busiest times of the year to travel.

Either by car or train, there’s usually a mass exodus from all the major cities, with people heading to their home county to celebrate the holiday season.

Irish Rail expects up to 400,000 Intercity journeys to be made over the Christmas and New Year period. They are advising people to book ahead to avoid any disappointment.

They’ve released their Christmas and New Years schedule information.

Up to and including Wednesday 23rd December

Normal schedules on all routes except bus transfers continuing between Carrick-on-Shannon and Longford, and between Ennis and Limerick due to flooding on the line.  

 

Christmas Eve, Thursday 24th December

Intercity services will operate a regular weekday service with some alterations until approximately 9pm.

Connolly & Cork Commuter services will operate a regular Saturday service until approximately 9pm.

Heuston Commuter services will operate a regular weekday service until approximately 8pm.

DART will operate a regular Saturday Service until approximately 9pm.

 

Christmas Day and St. Stephen’s Day (Friday 25th & Saturday 26th December)

No services will be running. 

 

Sunday 27th December

Intercity services will operate a Sunday service with some alterations.

DART and Commuter services will operate a regular Sunday service.

 

Monday 28th to Wednesday 30th December

Intercity services will operate a Saturday service with some alterations.

Commuter services will operate a regular Saturday service with some alterations.

DART will operate a regular Saturday Service.

 

Thursday 31st December

Intercity services will operate a weekday service with some alterations.

Commuter services will operate a Saturday service until approximately 9pm.

Newbridge/Kildare/Portlaoise Commuter services will operate a weekday service until approximately 8pm.

DART will operate a regular Saturday Service until approximately 9pm.

 

New Year’s Eve late night trains, including DART, Dundalk ad Maynooth

Late night services will operate after the New Year’s Dublin Festival events, for DART, Dundalk and Maynooth line customers.

01:30 & 02.30 from Connolly serving all stations to Greystones

01:30 & 02.30 from Pearse serving all stations to Howth

01:20 & 02.50 from Pearse serving all stations to Maynooth

01:40 & 02.40 from Pearse, serving Tara Street and Connolly Stations and all stations from Howth Jn to Dundalk (including Clongriffin, Portmarnock and Malahide on the DART line)

 

Friday 1st January 2016

Intercity services will operate a weekday service with some alterations.

Commuter services will operate a regular Sunday service.

DART will operate a regular Sunday Service.

 

Saturday 2nd January

Normal schedules resume.

Full schedule information throughout the period is available at www.irishrail.ie, and customers are advised to check their times before travelling on Intercity, DART and Commuter, as there are schedule alterations throughout this time on each day.
