“Give Me Up Your Diary” Thirteen Memories We All Have From Secondary School

We all moaned about getting up in the morning, we were exhausted from the amount of homework we had to turn in on a daily basis and we hated having to study on our own time. But there were plenty of good times and when most of us look back now, we wish we were back in school again. Here are thirteen memories we all have of those wonderful days...

1. The Bus.

If you weren’t a townie and lived right next door to the school, you had the privilege of getting the bus to school every morning. The bus was reserved for messing in the evening and doing your homework on in the morning. Useful.

2. Mitching.

Everyone mitched. Everyone. Everyone inevitably got caught by the Principal driving around after lunch to make sure everyone was in school.

3.  Smoking in the bathroom.

No, we never smoked in the bathroom. Ahem.

4. Asking that guy for a shift

But not really asking that guy for a shift, asking your friend to ask that guy for a shift.

5. Getting notes in your diary.

“Are you talking?! GIVE ME UP YOUR DIARY RIGHT NOW MISS”. Five notes meant suspension. If you could just keep it to four. The notes you got in the back of your diary from your mates were more important.

6. Making a statement.

I’m an individual, I will wear this velvet jacket despite what anyone thinks about it. Oh and this satchel, yes dammit this satchel.

7. The Slightly Hot Teacher.

There was always one. When you look back now, they really weren’t that hot but they were definitely the best thing going.

8. The Characters.

The Chatterbox, the Troublemaker, The Popular Girls, The Smart Ones, The Hot Boys, The Loner, there really was a place for everyone in secondary school.

9. Hanging out of the radiators in Winter.

“Get away from that radiator!” But Miss, honestly, I am about to turn into an ice cube!

10. Dodging PE

Miss, I have a note. I’ve got women’s problems.

11. Thanking the Lord when the fire alarm went off.

FREEDOM! Except when it went off in Home Economics and you were the cause of it.

12. The Laughing Fits

You were laughing so much, you couldn’t even answer the teacher when they asked you why you were laughing.

13. Missing School at the Weekends

Don’t lie, you bloody hated school but at the weekends, you really missed your mates.
