Good news! Crying once a week can apparently lead to a ‘stress-free life’

Jade Hayden

Any excuse to start bawling, tbh.

Crying is great.

It’s cathartic, it’s relaxing, it’s extremely emotionally charged which means that people are going to freak out when you do it in public but whatever, it’s fine, we can’t help that we are extremely impassioned and often upset beings.

There are plenty of scenarios where crying may be the only acceptable reaction, or definitely the preferable one, at least.

One of those scenarios is when you’ve just been broken up with. Another one is when a beloved pet dies. Another is when the Starbucks barista tells you he’s run out of sugar free vanilla syrup and you’re just so f*cking done with today.

Essentially, crying is the best and it’s just gotten even better because apparently if you do it frequently enough you can lead a “stress-free life.”

Japanese “tears teacher” Hidefumi Yoshida has claimed that crying once a week is the key to leading a life free from stress. In fact, he’s so convinced of this fact that he organises regular crying classes to help people achieve that sweet release of shedding a few tears.

He told Japan Times:

“The act of crying is more effective than laughing or sleeping in reducing stress. If you cry once a week, you can live a stress-free life.”

Seems legit, yeah.

In his crying classes, Yoshida informs people of the benefits of crying and encourages ways that they can ensure they break down regularly enough.

According to him, reading sad books, watching upsetting films, and listening to emotionally-charged music are the best ways to jerk a few tears.

Sound.
