This GORGE Alpine-worthy spa is actually on the Wild Atlantic Way and we’re going

Take us there!

Rolling hills, lush greenery, and plenty of fresh air.

We recently stumbled upon an absolutely gorge Swiss Alps-worthy resort and spa… albeit actually located in our very own Wild Atlantic Way.

Delphi – a place many of us visited back during our school days – is looking seriously stunning right now .

And we reckon that if you happen to have kids (or if you know any and fancy taking them on a bit of an adventure!) the property is the ultimate family destination for 2018.

Here are our five reasons why:

1) Fab location:

The very definition of gorge. The resort is located in the breathtaking Delphi Valley, near Leenane in Connemara. It’ll take you about 30 minutes to get there from Westport, or about 80 minutes from Galway city.

The likes of Kylemore Abbey, Connemara National Park, Louisburgh, and Croagh Patrick are close-by too if you fancy taking your adventure off-site and exploring further afield.

2) Loadsa #throwback memories:

Delphi Resort was previously just an adventure centre and hostel (school-tour ahoy!) but has now evolved into more of a #goals leisure break destination: there is a 4-star hotel, an award-winning spa, and a restaurant, along with yoga and wellness studios.

If you reckon dorm-style accommodation is more your thing, there is still a hostel on site – but it’s starkly different from the one you might recall from your youth. It reopened in March of this year, and is bright, modern, and chic. You can take a look at the interior here.

3) Get the fam together:

It’s a great spot for the whole family to head off to (we had a root around on the Dephi website and spotted some really good family deals also).

Parents and kids can enjoy a combination of the likes of walking and relaxing, along with plenty of more energetic adventures on land and water.

There is even a free morning kids club during peak season.

4) Try new things:

More than 20 outdoor activities to delve into for those aged four years or older.

Kayaking, surfing, raft-building, and canoeing on water; zip-lining, archery, mountain biking, and orienteering on land – if you want to try your hand at something new, Delphi is a good place to get stuck in and go for it.

We particularly like the look of the resort’s famous bog challenge and obstacle course. It’s a family or group activity and suffice to say, you’ll be up to your eyeballs in mess and mud by the end.

5) Food:

We love Delphi’s 814 restaurant – which overlooks the breathtaking Connemara landscape. Mweelrea, Connacht’s highest mountain at 814 metres, can be perfectly taken in as you dine (and yes, its height gives the restaurant its name!).

The food itself is sourced and selected from locally-based farmers and fishermen. Seafood is picked along the nearby coastline – with mussels, for example, caught fresh in the Killary fjord.

The organically-farmed lamb comes from the hills surrounding Delphi, while local growers and suppliers provide the resort with a bountiful of accompanying produce like jams, chutneys, bread, and cheese.

Bliss!

Delphi Resort runs family holiday packages in both the hotel and hostel to suit all budgets. Right now, there is up to 25 percent off family deals. And all packages include up to €340 worth of adventure activities.
