The Former First Lady, Betty Ford, was an advocate of health and social reform and in 1982, she founded and served as the First Chair for the Board of Directors for the Betty Ford Centre.
The aim of the centre was to provide health care and treatment for alcohol and other drug addictions. The First Lady went about setting up the care centre following her own battles with alcohol addiction.
Now, the Betty Ford centre is synonymous with the word rehab and many a celebrity has darkened the doors.
