In case you didn’t know, today is Presidents’ Day in the United States of America.
And while we’re on the other side of the Atlantic we still thought we’d take the opportunity to highlight some of our favourite presidential quotes from over the years…
Abraham Lincoln: “You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time” – wise words from one of the greatest leaders of all time.
Ronald Reagan: “It’s true hard work never killed anybody, but I figure, why take the chance?” – half day then so!
John F Kennedy: “And so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country” – from the not-so-perfect but oh-so-great JKF.
Franklin Pierce: “There is nothing left to do but get drunk” – hey, we’re just taking the lead of an American President!
Thomas Woodrow Wilson: “We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers” – if you ever needed a reason to strive for your goals.
George W Bush: “I know that the human being and fish can co-exist peacefully!” – oh George…
Franklin Delano Roosevelt: “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” – just think of this next time a huge spider crawls across the floor and you’ll be grand.
Bill Clinton: “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” – standing strong at the beginning of the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal.
Bill Clinton: “Indeed I did have a relationship with Ms Lewinsky that was not appropriate. In fact, it was wrong” – tail between legs comes to mind (no innuendo intended).
Barack Obama: “We lose ourselves when we compromise the very ideals that we fight to defend. And we honour those ideals by upholding them not when it’s easy, but when it is hard” – if that doesn’t inspire you, nothing ever will!
