It’s fair to say that Visa’s credit card verification system has made an enemy of many of us but that frustration may be a thing of the past.
Mastercard and Visa have announced that they plan to replace the MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa systems with a new standard called SafetyNet.
The new system hopes to be more user-friendly than its predecessors by reducing the reliance on passwords as a means of verifying identity.
It is expected that cardholders will be able to identify themselves with single-use passwords or fingerprint biometrics, with Mastercard also said to be piloting tests for facial and voice recognition apps.
The changes will be implemented from 2015.
