A hearing has learnt how a heart attack victim was left to die in the back of an ambulance after a paramedic walked away – because his shift was over.
Senior response crew Andrew Orme, working in Merseyside, abandoned ailing pensioner Norma Davies, leaving her with a driver and technician who were not trained to look after her.
Davies, 63, had not been properly observed in the ambulance, and later died en route to the hospital.
This was the second time the paramedic failed to react to a serious case, after he failed to notice a two year old toddler who had been injured in a playground required hospital attention.
After a 15-minute assessment Orme said the young boy did not need urgent treatment, but unfortunately the young boy lost consciousness during the night and died with a blood clot.
The emergency paramedic was cautioned under the Health Professions Council for misconduct in 2010, but was still free to treat patients.
Orme has now quit as a paramedic following his latest incident.
