A new selfie craze has kicked off on social media following revelations by Childline earlier this week that they may be forced to close their night helpline due to lack of funding.

The childhood selfie is the latest in selfies for charity, and has seen people across Ireland upload a picture of themselves from their childhood as well as making a €4 donation to the Irish charity.

The children’s charity revealed this week that it receives 1,800 calls per day yet is now under major financial pressure.

Supporters of Childline are urging people to put the childhood selfie up, get sharing and tweeting and not to forget to text Childline to 57911 and donate €4 to ensure that 45,000 children’s phonecalls do not go unheard.

The selfies are being posted with the hashtags #childhoodselfie and #SaveChildline24.
