Here’s Why You REALLY Shouldn’t Wear Gym Leggings More Than Twice Without Washing Them

Another way we’ve been failing at adulting.

When it comes to our jeans and everyday leggings, we have our laundry routine down pat.

However, the oul gym gear can be a little neglected when it comes to regular washing.

There are numerous reasons for this – we know we’re just going to get them all dirty again, we’re going to look a mess at the gym anyway, and we literally don’t own enough gym pants to be rotating them.

However, it looks like this needs to become a priority ASAP, as apparently wearing your gym gear even twice in a row without washing can have nasty side effects for your health.

Josh Zeichner, M.D. the director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City told Cosmopolitan.co.uk that due to the close proximity of skin to legging, combined with the oil and sweat produced, the environment is perfect for bacteria to thrive.

This means fungal infections like ringworm –  scaly skin patches that peel or flake – or other uncomfortable rashes.

You’re also putting yourself in danger of vaginal yeast infections due to the warm, moist environment and the fact that the building heat has nowhere to go.
