Here’s the correct way to put fairy lights on your Christmas tree

Oops.

It’s so much easier too.

Although they look great, putting up the Christmas decorations can be a bit of a pain.

It usually involves digging through boxes, standing on chairs and stressing out because your tree doesn’t look like the one you saw on Instagram.

Fairy lights are always a complicated business, and getting them to look even on your tree is way harder than it should be.

But fear not, because apparently, we’ve been hanging them wrong all our lives according to designer Francesco Bilotto.

Instead of wrapping the lights around and round your tree and dangling them on branches to try and make it even, we should go in a different direction completely.

Francesco recommends placing your lights vertically rather than horizontally on your tree. So start a the top and drape the lights down along a branch and back up, leaving some space between each line of lights.

It also makes it much easier to take the lights down when the festive season ends because they are not tangled between branches.
