Hit ITV Show Rumoured For Big Screen Debut

Award-winning period drama Downton Abbey is set to hit the big screen, after actress Raquel Cassidy hinted that show bosses are in talks with Hollywood. The show, which has proved popular both sides of the Atlantic and even has Michelle Obama and George Clooney as avid fans, has been tipped for a film adaptation. Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Racquel who plays housemaid Phyllis Baxter said: “There have been talks and there is definitely a possibility of a Downton film. “There is real hope. It’s been mentioned more than once and there’s a lot of commercial and artistic interest. Stranger things have happened, so watch this space.” The popular show, which has been confirmed for a sixth series, follows the aristocratic Crawley family and their house staff, with trials and tribulations that have gripped audiences through their sometimes controversial story lines. The show’s creator Julian Fellowes, who wrote the original screenplay for Gosford Park in 2001, has previously said it would be ‘great fun’ to make a film of the show, but only after the TV series has ended. The TV show has already had a touch of glamour with George Clooney taking to the set in a charity appeal in filming earlier this month.
