Husband pushed his wife off a cliff moments after this photo was taken

When Harold Henthorn’s first wife died tragically in what appeared to be a car accident, nobody doubted the grieving widower.

The Mirror reports that despite there being no witnesses to the tragedy, nobody questioned Harold’s version of events.

Until 17 years later when his second wife Toni fell to her death off a cliff. Both women died in freak accidents during the 12th year of their marriage.

Harold’s first wife, Sandra ‘Lynn’ had died in 1995 when she was crushed by a car. The couple had been out for dinner when Harold thought a tire was flat during the drive home. He pulled over to change it and while the car was up on a jack, Harold said he’d dropped a nut and Lynn crawled under the vehicle to retrieve it. The car then fell off the jack, fatally crushing her.

Five years later Harold met and married Toni, with whom he had one daughter.

In 2012, the couple approached their 12th marriage anniversary and Harold enlisted the help of Toni’s colleagues to arrange a surprise hiking trip. On September 29th, the couple trekked for a while before going off the trail to some rougher terrain. They took photos as they enjoyed the view.

However, tragedy soon struck. Harold called 911 reporting that his wife had fallen 130ft off the edge of a mountain. He asked them to send a paramedic by air saying “I will pay any and all expenses for a helicopter”.

Sadly the terrain was too rough for the helicopter and the paramedic instead instructed Harold through CPR. Harold trekked for 45 minutes before he could reach Toni’s body. She had suffered serious head injuries and her breathing was weak.

Harold returned home reporting to friends about the tragic accident but the words he used eerily echoed his mourning of his first wife. “My bride has gone,” he said.

It was quickly suspected that the death may not have been an accident. As investigators looked into the case they discovered damning evidence in Harold’s car. He had a map with an X marking the exact spot Toni had fallen.

It was discovered that Toni’s life insurance policy was worth millions. As police investigated Harold’s dark past they revealed he had lied on multiple occasions about his business and whereabouts.

He was found guilty of murder in September 2015.
