A group of schoolboys in North Wales have won over hundreds of people this week thanks to their heartwarming gesture for their schoolmate, Ethan Plumb.
Ethan, 15, has Down Syndrome so is unable to participate in any contact sports including his favourite one, rugby. However, he still goes to all of his school’s rugby matches in order to help them out any way they can.
The special moment came just two weeks ago, when his school Ysgol Brynhyfryd took on Ysgol Y Berwyn and Ethan came off the bench at the end of each half before going on to score the winning try at the end of the game.
His teammates worked the ball up the field to him and the opposition, who had been told that Ethan could not be tackled, chased him all the way to the try line.
“The game was played in excellent spirits and both teams competed well whilst playing creative rugby. A special mention must go to Year 11 student Ethan Plumb, who played his first ever rugby match and scored the winning try. A huge thank you must go to Huw Grifiths and Dylan Humphreys (Yr 11) for making this happen.”
An email sent from Huw Tomos-Griffiths to all the staff stated; “It was a magical moment for Ethan, his family and all the staff who came to support him and the team. A special mention must go to Ethan’s team mates last night who looked after him, encouraged him... I don’t think I’ve ever been prouder of being a teacher at Ysgol Brynhyfryd than I was last night. We have some truly special students at our school.
