A golden goal, a special ring and a hint of Christmas made the cut this week.

Having a lazy Sunday? Kick back, pour yourself a cuppa and enjoy Team Her.ie’s favourite reads of the week.

Though it’s a tough task, given how many fantastic stories we’ve come across in the past seven days, each of us here at Her.ie have chosen one of our favourite picks from the week, gathered together in one handy collection. Enjoy!

Mary’s Choice: She Shoots, She Scores

Mary says: As a major sports fan the highlight of my week this week was seeing Irish soccer player, Stephanie Roche be nominated for a prestigious FIFA Goal of the Year Award. Stephanie was the only women to achieve a nomination this year and was ranked in a top ten that featured some of the most famous footballers in the world.

Liz’s Choice: All Shapes & Sizes

Liz says: My favourite story this week is actually the response one story evoked from our lovely Her.ie readers. The story features a model who is a US size 10, and her own response to landing a Calvin Klein ad. The seriously stunning Myla Dalbesio spoke out about being ‘plus-size’ but embraces the positive effects of working on a campaign with size 0 models. With the change to fashion industry standards, I loved that our readers were quick to point out that Myla is a breath-taking beauty – regardless of her size and shape.

I hope that with more campaigns embracing the curvier lady, this won’t even be a topic in years to come, but for now, take a chance to look at the beautiful shots of this young woman.

Cathy’s Choice: A Very Merry Mulberry Christmas

Cathy says: Christmas season is well and truly here, we’ve had the John Lewis ad, the Boots ad, and now it’s the Mulberry ad. I’m obsessed with beautiful handbags and had to laugh when I saw the below video which shows a family trying to outdo each other with Christmas presents. While the girl in question is delighted with all her gifts (only a pug AND a unicorn), it’s the Mulberry that really gets a reaction!

Michelle’s Choice: Don’t Make Me Come Up There…

Michelle says: The Irish Mammy is a very special creature. Naturally, we all believe our own to be the best of the bunch, but collectively a more wonderful group of women can’t be found. Don’t cross her though – the Irish Mammy will do just about anything for you, but get on the wrong side of her and you will know ALL about it. This week I loved our round-up of the finest threats issued by the women who made us.

Rebecca’s Choice: Putting a Ring on It, The Second Time Around

Rebecca says: This story, about a woman being reunited with her wedding ring after losing it 15 years previously, brought a smile to my face this week because I’m sure she was devastated when she couldn’t find it. There’s also the fact that her husband (the most romantic man in the world) decided to get down on one knee to surprise her with it. If you ever think romance is dead, you just need to watch this!

Marie’s Choice: Golden Girl Jennifer Aniston

Marie says: I never really took sides in the #TeamJen v #TeamAngelina debate but after reading Jennifer Aniston’s latest interview with Harper’s Bazaar, I’m definitely a fan.

Despite being depicted as ‘Poor Jen’ in the media for the most of the past decade, she’s ignored the naysayers, got on with her life and is now sitting pretty with a very hunky fiancé, great friends and a possible Oscar nomination on the way. There’s probably a lesson in there for all of us.
