In A Rush? Here Are Five Breakfast Options For When You Have Less Than Five Minutes!

Now you've no excuses!

Her

We could give you all the reasons why breakfast is the most important meal of the day but we’re pretty sure you know the drill.

One of the top reasons why you might not grab a snack in the morning is the usual racing against the clock – but what if we gave you the answer to a quick meal that will help kickstart that metabolism?

And all you need is five minutes in the kitchen.

While you dry that hair why not prepare one of these quick fixes?

Chorizo and Scrambled Eggs

  • Chorizo
  • 2 x Medium Eggs
  • 2 x Spring Onions

Serve yourself a punch of protein and grab a frying pan, chopping board and a plate.

Chorizo is one of the handiest meats to cook and tastes great with eggs. Spray some cooking spray in a frying pan. Chop the spring onions and heat in a pay on a low setting. Add the chorizo to the pan and cook for 2mins. Crack two eggs on the pan and season with salt and pepper. Use a fork to stir the pan and when the eggs are scrambled serve onto a plate.

Porridge and Berries

  • 30g of porridge oats
  • 15g of Raisins (or frozen blueberries)

Ok, it doesn’t sound exciting, but porridge is a staple breakfast dish that will keep the hunger pangs at bay. Pour 30g of porridge oats to a bowl and cover with 60g of water. Stir the oats in the water and add 15g of raisins or blueberries. Place the bowl in the microwave and heat for 2mins (based on 8watt oven).

Season with cinnamon for a festive kick!

Porridge: For most of us, porridge reminds us of our mothers – mainly because they used to shovel it into us when we were little and it was cold outside. Porridge is a great food for keeping you full. It’s easy to make, it’s full of nutrients and it’s versatile. Try adding some fruit to it for even more health benefits. If you really can’t stomach it, try making it with milk instead of water.

Peanut Butter and Banana Toast

  • 1 slice of wholemeal bread
  • 1 banana
  • 1tsp. of Peanut Butter

For any sweet tooth looking to get a sweet hit in the morning, toast a slice of wholemeal bread and spread with the 1tsp of butter. Chop the banana into slices and scatter over the top. As well as added potassium, the peanut butter is a great source of protein, while wholemeal bread will keep you fuller for longer. Top up with a cup of tea for a delicious start to your day.

Homemade Granola and Yoghurt

Granola

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 125ml maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 300g rolled oats
  • 50g sunflower seeds
  • 4 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 50g pumpkin seeds
  • 100g flaked almonds
  • 100g dried berries (find them in the baking aisle)
  • 50g coconuts flakes or desiccated coconut

Pot of Natural Yoghurt

Ok, so this will take a little preparation, but once you make a batch of granola, seal it in an air-tight container for up to a month to be used at leisure!

Heat oven to 150C/fan 130C/gas 2. Mix the oil, maple syrup, honey and vanilla in a large bowl. Tip in all the remaining ingredients, except the dried fruit and coconut, and mix well. Tip the granola onto two baking sheets and spread evenly. Bake for 15 mins, then mix in the coconut and dried fruit, and bake for 10-15 mins more. Remove and scrape onto a flat tray to cool. Serve with cold milk or yogurt.

It might sound complicated, but French toast is one of the easiest dishes to make that will impress your friends on short notice.

In one bowl mix the eggs, milk and cinnamon and whisk together. Dip the bread in the bowl and cover both sides of the slice with the mixture. Heat a frying pan on a medium setting and spray with cooking spray. Place the two bread slices on the pan for 2 minutes until turning crisp brown and flip. Leave to cook for a minute longer.
