Christina Kenny and mum Alison have an exceptional bond, evident in their shared blog Dying Of Cystic Fibrosis. As the title suggests, the central theme of their shared writings is Alison’s illness.
Christina says,
“We started the blog to help others who were going through hardship. So we could relate to others dealing with stuff out there.
It has really made my mum and I even closer together because we have both explored topics we haven't previously even talked about with each other so we have even learned about each other. It has been amazing”.
Together the pair writes about the illness, their relationship and the days they have together.
The response to the blog is always positive. Christina says,
“The reaction has been great. All positive. I have had people from my undergraduate university at UCD contact me saying 'you don't know me but...' And they would share their own stories with me about their hardships. Whether it be cancer, depression. Whatever. Also it has even taught my extended family stuff they didn't know about us and my friends who did not know much about the disease”.
Christina is pursuing a PhD in Cystic Fibrosis Research.
