Jean's mother, Rubia Liliana Rose, said that her son loves animals and will rescue ones he finds abandoned or abused.
The incident was captured by photographer Rafaela Martins and it drew praise from the public after Brazil's News Agency of Animal Rights shared the story on its Facebook page on Monday.
According to BioBioChile, the dog identified as Honey, or Mel in Portuguese, is still in the care of vets at a local animal rescue centre but is doing well.
