An Instagram account has been criticised for selling knives disguised as lipsticks and other beauty products.

US company Alien Outfitters sells a range of products from clothing to underwear to hair and beauty products.

However, their collection of knives disguised as lipsticks and combs has been criticised for “glamorising” weapons.

The Telegraph reports that the knives were being illegally imported into the UK despite the country’s strict knife laws.

Similar laws exist in Ireland making it illegal to import knives such as “flick knives and several types of disguised knives.”

Chief executive of the UK’s Ben Kinsella Trust has condemned Instagram for allowing Alien Outfitters to promote their collection on their platform.

He said:

“They are glamorising these knives as fashion accessories.

“This is a forum where young people openly encourage each other to break the law by buying flick knives and concealed knives which are illegal for any age group.”

The Ben Kinsella Trust was set up 10 years ago after 16-year-old Ben Kinsella was stabbed to death in Islington.

Alien Outfitters market their “self-defence” products towards people over the age of 18.

Before entering their site, users must confirm that they are of age.

The company ships to countries all over the world, however, the site states that Alien Outfitter’s knife collection is “not shipped overseas.”

“All knives are intended for decorative and ornamental purposes. Customers are held responsible to follow their state laws when purchasing.”
