Limerick’s bid to host the Gay Games in 2018 is thought to showcase Ireland as an open country and attract thousands of visitors to our Emerald Isle, the bid’s organisers have claimed.
If successful, Limerick would attract at least 10,000 participants and more than 15,000 spectators in August of 2018.
Limerick placed their bid in along with Amsterdam, London, Paris and Orlando.
Limerick’s bid shows how the Treaty City would deliver the 32 sporting events and a massive multicultural festival.

The next games will be held in Cleveland, Ohio next year.
Cillian Flynn and Billie who are behind the 2018 bid are very confident.
They believe the city has the facilities and the infrastructure to host an amazing Games.
Cillian said: “We believe that should we be successful we will not just put Limerick and The Shannon Region on the map but we will showcase the entire island of Ireland as a welcome and open country that will embrace the 2018 Gay Games.”
The University of Limerick will be transformed into The Gay Games Village where the majority of events will take place, along with a media and hospitality centre.
As well as the more mainstream sports the Gay Games include bodybuilding events for pensioners and ballroom dancing.
The next International Gay games will take place in Cleveland, Ohio, next year.
