The scammers have been phoning landlines and claiming that they are the security manager of the store.
They then tell the victim that someone has attempted to use their card and that they should contact their bank or local Garda station.
However, when the victim hangs up and dials the next number, the scammers stay on the line and then pose as the bank employee or Garda, encouraging the victim to disclose their account details.
Gardaí have reported that a number of people have been tricked into handing over their financial details, with a number of people calling the store to report that someone falsely claimed to work there.
