The X Factor kicked off the bootcamp stage of the competition last night in spectacularly controversial fashion during the first of its Friday night shows.
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini was revealed as mentor of the Girls category and it is safe to say that some of her decisions were not shared with the other panel members.
Cheryl’s six seats were filled with two acts yet to perform. The Geordie singer then swapped contestants repeatedly, bringing back Chloe-Jasmin Whichello, much to the dismay of the booing crowd and Boys mentor, Mel B.
Chloe-Jasmin, who Cheryl has openly never warmed to in previous shows, was called back onto the stage.
Cheryl told the contestant: “I want versatility in my group going forward… I want something that can do something different each week; I’m missing that up there. I want to put you in my top six”.
The 23-year-old performed a jazz rendition of Backstreet Boys ‘I Want It That Way’, stealing a place in the judges' houses from Irish woman Orla Keogh.
The decision left the audience speechless and other judges horrified by some of Cheryl's decision, seen here in this teaser clip below:

While being escorted from the judging panel backstage, Mel passed Orla and told the cameras: "I think that was a big mistake. I told Cheryl that. Big mistake".
Keogh had performed a rendition of S.O.S Band's Just Be Good To Me, which you can watch in the clip below:
