Is His Gym Routine Leaving You At Risk Of An STI?

Eww.

While we all know the benefits of exercise – a healthy heart, increased fitness, weight control and improved mental health – there can be a downside to your man taking to the gym.

According to sexual medicine reports, there’s been an increase in STIs being passed on by gym members – and it has nothing to do with extra-curricular activities.

According to Jennifer Berman, M.D. and urologist specialising in female urology and sexual medicine, men who work out are a lot more likely to pick up an STF – otherwise known as sexually transmitted fungus.

*We’ll give you a second to recoil in horror*

Men who work out a lot are more likely to get jock itch – an infection caused by the same fungus responsible for athlete’s foot.

The fungus thrives in moist places, including gym shorts, boxers and on skin and genitals that haven’t been sufficiently cleaned post sweaty workout.

An STF can affect your man’s groin, meaning an increased risk of passing the fungus to his partner during sex.

Symptoms to look out for include a rash in his genital area, with doctors recommending abstaining from sex until the fungal infection is fully treated.

Suddenly, we’re not feeling so hot and bothered.

Shower anyone?
