September is the second most dangerous month for gaining weight, according to a new study.

If you’ve been skipping the gym and craving comfort foods over the last few weeks, you’re not alone as research has shown that autumn is the worst season for putting on weight.

Over 2,000 people were included in the study, carried out by Forza Supplements, and the results showed that September was the second ‘fattest’ month of the year. It was beaten only by December, with many of us ditching the scales to enjoy some seasonal feasting over the festive period.

The study also found that the average person will gain five pounds during autumn, with two of those piling on during the month of September. Interestingly, this is the same amount that most people lose prior to their summer holidays. A further four pounds is usually gained during winter, while January and June were found to be the best months to lose weight.

Saturday is the worst day of the week for weight gain, with 54 per cent of people saying they consume the most calories on that day.
