The hugely anticipated rematch of the 2012 Olympic final did not take place today as it was announced that Irish champion, Katie Taylor has received a walkover.
The Bray fighter now goes straight through to the semi-finals and she remains on course to scoop a fifth championship title.
Katie was due to face Sofya Ochigava in the AIBA World Women’s Elite Championships quarter final, but it has been reported that the Russian fighter is believed to have picked up an injury in her previous bout and was forced to pull out of the quarter-final.
Taylor will now face the winner of the fight between Jinhua Yin, from China, and Bulgaria’s Denista Eliseeva, in the semi-final on Sunday.
