Late Late viewers were outraged with some of the comments made by exorcist priest Father Pat Collins on last night’s show.
The exorcist priest made an appearance on the weekly chat show to chat with host Ryan Tubridy and his remarks about “spiritual oppression” sparked a major reaction with people watching.
He spoke about how there is a huge demand for his services in Ireland and said that there is a “tsunami of evil” happening at the moment.
He recalled some of his past experiences and people have criticised the fact that it was women that he referenced when discussing some previous exorcisms.
“Often they’ll speak in another voice and it’s very strange if you’re dealing with a woman for example, she may have a sweet feminine voice when you’re talking to her. One of the things now, if I had an interview with the person, I’d often just say to them at the end ‘do you mind if I say a prayer with you’ and I would put out my hands and pray, in the name of Jesus always, that the power of the spirit will touch them and straight away instantly, this strange voice comes out and the woman’s voice is gone”.
When Ryan asked what the voice would say, the priest answered: “usually blaspheming”.
However, it was when he spoke about suicide and said that although he had to be very “tentative in giving examples”, some people who have ongoing suicidal thoughts could be “oppressed by an evil spirit”.
This completely outraged those watching at home and many took to Twitter to express their anger with his opinions and indeed, the national broadcaster for inviting him on the show to air his thoughts with the nation.
The Catholic Church must be desperate. Trying to entice fearful people back to their money grubbing organization by rolling out an author exorcist who claimsthere is currently a ‘tsunami of evil’ all over Europe. #SLoDG #latelate #beammeupScotty

So it turns out suicidal thoughts are the work of evil spirits/the devil. I feel silly now for spending all those years training to be a psychotherapist to support people in distress. I’ll just refer people on to that priest in future ? #latelateshow

And here we are, in 2019, and women are still being “treated” with exorcism by priests for distress, psychological anguish and #mentalhealth conditions.
God save us.#latelate— Melanie Ryberg (@melanieryberg) February 16, 2019
“Exorcisms” are linked with the mental and physical abuse of children and vulnerable adults.
The #latelate providing an opportunity for the endorsement of this is irresponsible. https://t.co/mIumCjjAiF— Avril Cryan (@AvrilCryan) February 15, 2019
Rte is disturbingly out of touch . Having anyone that represents that awful cult that isn’t Peter Mcverry is an insult to the fallen women and decades of child abuse #RTEbias #LateLate

It’s as if we have been transported back to 1983 with the priest.. and to think he could have done medicine made a worthy contribution to this world.. what complete nonsense. #latelate pic.twitter.com/GqEpQ7Rmf2

How dare that man sit there and lecture those who have committed suicide calling it evil when Priests have been responsible for some of the most heinous acts of evil ever committed on our citizens. Disgusting stuff, shame on you, RTE. #latelate ??

Did he just say suicidal people could be possessed by the devil? Are we living in the 1600s? #latelate
