The Latest Video From Guinness Featuring Lianne La Havas Gives Hope To All Aspiring Musicians

“Behind every great act, there’s someone that’s helped them and inspired them when searching for their voice.”

British folk and soul singer Lianne La Havas is the latest musician to feature in the Guinness series, following on from Guinness’ advert ‘John Hammond – Intolerant Champion’.

The series celebrates the legacy of 1930s music producer, John Hammond and his impact on contemporary musicians today.

Working in a pre-Civil Rights Movement era when racial tensions were high, John Hammond was instrumental in supporting some of the world’s most famous artists, including Billie Holiday, Count Basie and Benny Goodman.

La Havas understands the importance of getting that support early on. She was living above a pub, struggling to pay her rent, when her former manager encouraged her to follow her dream.

In this uplifting clip, she talks about the importance of having someone believe in you, and the satisfaction that comes with collaborating with other artists.

In Lianne’s words, “If you keep an open mind, you never know what could happen.” Take a look at Lianne La Havas’ personal journey below.

Sometimes brilliance needs a push. The story of nurture and inspiration doesn’t end when there’s success.

For her most recent album, Lianne went to Jamaica, home of her father, for the first time. There she met reggae star Stephen McGregor, jammed with him and developed a song for her album.

As an artist, she has kept on developing, never forgetting those that have helped her on her journey. We can’t wait to hear this evolution manifest in her new album.

This is the third of four videos from Guinness celebrating John Hammond and his legacy through the eyes of musicians today.

These videos celebrate diversity, music as a force for good, nurturing talent and creative bravery.

Take a look at the first and second episodes featuring Rudimental and Lady Leshurr, and make sure to keep an eye out for the final instalment next week.
