They alway say that diamonds are a girl’s best friend but when it comes to Valentine’s Day, thoughtful, romantic gestures tend to win out.
According to a new poll, all us womenfolk want for Valentines day is a hug or a smooch and nine out of ten of us would happily choose that over a diamond necklace or some chocolate.
While many men believe that expensive bling and elaborate bouquets of flowers is the surefire way to win us over, most women would be happy with something that costs nothing, like a cuddle or a love letter.
In fact, a quarter of the women questioned as part of the survey admitted that they’d love it if their partner wrote them a romantic poem. While 8 per cent would be happy with a passionate smooch.

Most of us would rather have a love letter than a diamond ring this V-day
However, there are a few of us who still have expensive taste when it comes to February 14th. A quarter of women revealed that they would love to be whisked away for a luxury trip abroad this Valentine’s Day.
“This survey shows you don’t have to spend large sums of money to woo your other half this Valentine’s Day,” said Mike Taylor, a spokesperson for the British Heart Foundation (who conducted the survey).
“In fact, romantic gestures like writing a love note or even just a hug can make your partner’s day,” he added.
The survey also revealed that one in ten men believe cooking dinner or splashing out on some expensive jewellery is the way to a woman’s heart. And a further 9 per cent said that lingerie was the best gift to get their other half, despite the fact that only one per cent of women agree.
Five per cent of men said that the thought doing the housework was the most romantic thing they could do for their lady, while two per cent admitted that not watching sport all weekend would make their other half happy this Valentine’s Day.
