If you are anything like me, you are a sucker for fresh flowers in your home.

It’s my Friday treat to myself every weekend and looking at them for the next week, it just makes me happy. Now, as it is summer, I am obsessed with beautiful hydrangeas – those big, voluptuous blooms just remind me of sunny, happy days.

However, what doesn’t make me happy, is when I have spent good money on flowers and they start drooping and wilting within days.

Which happens more often than not.

Until recently, I would just bin the flowers and moan and complain about how much money I had just wasted. And then, of course, do the exact same thing next week and the week after etc.

However, then I came across this genius hack for fixing wilting hydrangeas – and guys – it works! Just check this out:

Here is what she says about saving your flowers once they have started to wilt:

“Hydrangeas can drink through their flowers so soak them in cold water for up to 8 hours.”

I tried this and left my hydrangeas in a bowl of freezing water in the sink overnight – and it worked a charm! The next day, they looked brand new!

As well as this, according to Pure Joy Home, you can also treat the stems so they are more able to drink water once you put the blooms back into a vase:

“The stems are waxy which can act as a barrier from the water in your vase. By placing the stems in boiling water, you loosen up the wax so they can DRINK.”

I, of course, tried this too – and again, my flowers seemed to really benefit, and guess what – I got almost two weeks out of my latest bunch of hydrangeas – which is at least a week longer than ever before!
