Lily Allen leaves Twitter after vile abuse about her stillborn baby

Alison Bough

Singer and mum-of-two Lily Allen has told fans that she is taking a break from Twitter after being subjected to a torrent of abuse about her stillborn baby and mental health.

Trolls turned on Allen (31) after she tweeted about the prejudice faced by immigrants and Muslims. The abusive tweets led to the Smile singer revealing that she has ongoing mental health issues as a result of losing her son six months into her pregnancy.

One nasty tweet accused Allen of lying about her traumatic hospital experience and another accused the star of causing a miscarriage by taking recreational drugs.

The nasty abuse led the singer to tell her nearly 5.91 million followers that she was taking a break from the social media platform.

Lily’s tweets were then taken over by someone identified only as ‘Dennis’ who declared an intention to go on a “hate blocking spree.”

Allen briefly returned to her account to plead with Twitter to sort out the vitriolic abuse.

Lily is mum to two girls, Ethel Mary (5) and Marnie Rose (4). The singer suffered a miscarriage in 2008 and gave birth to a stillborn son in October 2010. Allen has previously stated that she spent almost a month in a psychiatric clinic battling depression as a result of her difficult experiences.
