Six-year-old Lily-Mae from Claregalway, Co Galway won the hearts of people across the nation with the story of her fight against Stage IV Neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer of the nervous system.
To date, there has been more than 280,000 views on YouTube for the single
Tiny Dancer – A Song for Lily-Mae that saw family and friends get together to release the song in order to help raise money to fund treatment for her.
Since then, Lily Mae’s story has reached the ears of one celebrity admirer as singer Elton John heard about her story and couldn’t contain his pride that his song had been chosen for such a great cause.
The musician paid tribute to all who had supported the song and took time to meet Lily-Mae and her family before he went on stage at the 3Arena in Dublin this week. He later went on and dedicated the song
Tiny Dancer to little Lily-Mae.
“One of the nicest things that has happened in the last 18 months was that a group of Irish entertainers and musicians got together and made a record to enhance the life of a little girl called Lily."

“And they chose one of my songs to actually perform the record and that was a huge compliment and I was very, very touched.
“I want to thank those musicians from the bottom of my heart, and I had the pleasure of meeting lily Mae with her parents before the show. I’m wearing her armband, and her badge, and I want to wish her all the best.”
On Facebook after the event the Song for Lily Mae group said: “As Lily-Mae’s journey continues, we hope that it will be long and full of joy, as easy as a stroll along a country path on a warm summer’s day and that you will stay with our Tiny Dancer, keeping her company, sharing in her happiness at moments like these and lending your support and love whenever she might stumble.”
