Lonely Planet has named this Irish toilet as one of the most ‘stunning’ in the world

Ellen Tannam

Using a public toilet is usually not the most enjoyable of human experiences.

There is plenty of hovering over seats and hand sanitising in my ventures in public places to pee.

Some public toilets are very fancy indeed, though, and travel guide Lonely Planet have put together an entire tome of toilets from around the world that are top-notch.

The Irish Examiner report an Irish lavatory has made the cut in the book, called Toilets: A Spotter’s Guide.

A thatched toilet in the middle of Gougane Barra forest park in Co. Cork has been described by the authors as one of Earth’s most stunning lavatories.

The authors waxed lyrical about the loos in the description:

“Gougane Barra in Co Cork, Ireland, has been a retreat from the cruel world and a spot for quiet contemplation — since St Finbarr established an island monastery on the lake during the sixth century. These thatched toilets, tucked away in the forest park, continue that tradition.”

We’ll have to pay it a visit at some point, you know, to see (and pee) for ourselves.
