Earlier this year John and Ann Betar were declared America’s “longest married couple” and this Monday they will be celebrating their 81st wedding anniversary.
The couple, who have 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, apparently drove to New York and eloped on November 25th 1932 despite the fact that her father wanted her to marry someone else.
John, who is now 102 years old, told ABC News that the secret is “just contentment... with what you have, what you’re doing.”
His sentiments were echoed by his wife (98) who said: “If you think a little bit about what you’re doing and if it’s wrong and he tried to straighten it out, we straighten it out. And if not, you just try to go along with it.”
