Well done to the man who returned it!

Losing a parent is incredibly difficult and something you never get over.

It can help a lot to have something that belongs to them to hold onto in their memory. Oftentimes, sentimental items are more valuable than any expensive possessions.

So when Bethany Gash’s mother Lisa wrote her a letter to say goodbye before she died, it obviously mean’t a lot to her.

Lisa, who died from Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 36 penned an emotional letter to her daughter which said:

“If your dad is reading this to you it is because I have died and gone to heaven to live with the angels.”

It also read:

“I will always be in the sky making sure you are alright and watching over you so when you see a bright star, like in the nursery rhyme Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, that’s me … I hope you don’t forget me because I’ll always be your mam.”

The letter sadly went missing when the Lisa and her dad moved house, but it turns out it was placed between some books for safe-keeping.

A bookshop owner named Gordon Draper found the letter only recently, it was accompanied with a photo of the mother and daughter and tucked into a pile of books.

Draper sent out an appeal in the Northern Echo newspaper to find Bethany and thankfully, 15 years after the letter went missing, it was reunited with it’s rightful owner.

According to the Telegraph Draper was ‘overwhelmed and very pleased’ that it was returned to Bethany.

“This is the last piece of my mum that I have.”

“I haven’t seen this letter for about 15 years. For it to be returned to me in such good condition is absolutely amazing – the lengths that they went to to find me.” Bethany said.
