Man tells girlfriend to turn down promotion as he would be ‘humiliated’

We cannot believe he said that.

It can be incredibly awkward and uncomfortable if you witness an argument taking place in public.

But one social media user was so shocked by a recent argument that she overheard in an airport that she ended up live-tweeting the whole thing.

Twitter user @mzbat, posted the exchange in thread earlier this week, which saw a man telling his girlfriend that she needed to turn down her work promotion because he would end up “humiliated” if she earned more than him.

Things began to escalate quickly, with the onlooker sharing the story on social media.

She began:

“Couple beside me at the airport is arguing over money.

“He just told her if she loved him she’d turn down the promotion bc everyone would know she’d be making more money than him and he’d be humiliated. Is that really still a thing?

“omg she’s crying and said she’d never do anything to jeopardize their relationship and he’s like ‘good then turn down the job’ and I just want to punch him.”

And then the exchange got even worse.

The man allegedly told her that there wasn’t a point in her focusing on her career, since once they were married and had children, she wouldn’t be working anyways.

The social media thread continued:

“He just told her once they’re married and have kids she wouldn’t be working anyway so there’s no point focusing on her career anyway and I’m rekt. I can’t believe this is 2017.”

The woman in question took exception to the assumption, before seemingly getting fed up of him.

She responded by throwing her boarding pass at him before storming away, telling him to “have fun in Cancun.”

The story struck a chord with social media users, with many people sending messages of support to the anonymous woman in the airport.

The original Twitter user, @mzbat, finished up the story with a very important message for the woman.

It read:

“Dear Brave Airport Lady, if you ever see this, just know that although I’m sorry you went through this (esp during the holidays).

“I hope that, one day, you look back on this as a defining moment in your life.

“Never settle. Follow your heart. You are a goddess.”
