Somehow, examiners spotted that the "girl" in front of them looked very different to the picture on her ID card.
A spokesman for the exam board said: "We suspected it might be another woman that had taken the candidate's place, but we never suspected it was a man that had taken her place. At least not until he started speaking.
"He tried speaking in a high voice but it was obvious then that he was a male."
Zhademov was fined just over €1,900 for his endeavours, but the fee was paid by a local businessman who was impressed by Ayan's daring gesture in the name of love.
Dariga Nesterova, another student sitting the exam said the move was "very romantic" - adding "I wish my boyfriend was this romantic."
Ayan's girlfriend will now have to wait until next year to take the exam.
