Joseph Amorese was recovering from hernia surgery when his dad decided to buy him a ‘get well soon’ card and popped a $25 scratch-off New York Lottery ticket inside.
The 46-year-old was in for a shock when he scratched the card, as the one his dad had bought was an instant winner to the tune of $7 million.
“I took my glasses off, I’m looking at it, I was pretty shocked to say the least. I had surgery so I didn’t jump up and down, but in my mind I was jumping up and down,” he explained.
According to the Huffington Post, Amorese then sent a picture of the ticket to his dad, who confirmed the win, before calling his wife of ten months to share the good news.
“I said, ‘Honey, I think we won $7,000,000. And there was silence on the other end for a long time. She was too stunned to talk.”
The couple now plan to go on a second honeymoon but have said that the win will not have a huge impact on their daily lives.
“I don’t expect [my life] to change a whole lot… I’m still going to go to work every day. My wife’s gonna go to work.”
