It might be the song to close every night out over the festive period, but it seems Mariah Carey’s iconic hit is no longer the most played song over Christmas.

While you probably know every word of ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ (and miss the high note every time), it’s no longer the song you’re most likely to hear when out and about or shopping for last minute presents.

According to Paste Magazine,  the PlayNetwork company that creates playlists for more than 400 stores, argues that consumers are more likely to hear a cover of Paul McCartney’s ‘Wonderful Christmastime’ from The Shins over the 1994 classic.

The 20 most popular holiday songs according to PlayNetwork are:

1.Shins “Wonderful Christmastime”

2.Mariah Carey “All I Want For Christmas Is You”
3.Christina Aguilera “Christmas Time”
4.Waitresses “Christmas Wrapping”
5.Jack Johnson “Someday At Christmas”
