An event known as a ‘Purity Ball’ where fathers vow to protect their young daughter innocence by making them commit to a pure life is spreading across America.

According to ABC News the act is becoming somewhat of a phenomenon and is occurring in approximately 48 states across the US and up to 17 other countries.

Fathers pledge “to protect their daughters in their choices for purity” and new fly-on-the-wall documentary, Nightline Prime, follows two families who subscribe to the purity lifestyle as they prepare for the ‘Super Bowl’ of Purity Balls in Colorado Springs.

Pastor and founder of the event, Ron Wilson, is filmed giving his young daughter a gold ring to symbolise her commitment in a trailer for the show.

“One of the things you’ve been asking daddy about is ‘when am I going to get my purity ring?'” he says kneeling in front of her.

“One of things I think it’s important to remember is this is your desire to do it the Lord’s way and really save yourself from kissing lots of toads along the way and wait for your prince charming to come along.”

Ron continues: “This is just a reminder that keeping yourself pure is important. So you keep this on your finger and from this point you are married to the Lord and your father is your boyfriend.”

Up to 60 fathers vow to protect their daughter’s choices for purity by signing a ‘purity covenant’ in which they pledge “before God to cover my daughter as her authority and protection in the area of purity.”

Each girl commits silently to live a ‘pure life’ before God through the symbolic laying down of a white rose at a cross before engaging in a father-daughter first dance.
