Would you marry yourself? Sologomy ceremonies are taking over

Who needs a groom anyway?

She looked like any other beautiful bride dressed all in white, making her way down the aisle to the love of her life… hang on… there was no-one at the other end of the aisle, and that’s exactly how Erica Anderson wanted it.

‘Sologomy’ is the latest relationship trend where people are committing to having a deep and meaningful relationship with themselves.

Explaining the reasoning, Erica told WUSA that at 37 years of age she had grown tired of people asking why she was still single. So, in front of family and friends, she decided to stand up and commit to herself for the rest of her life.

“I would describe it as women saying yes to themselves,” Anderson said. “It means that we are enough, even if we are not partnered with someone else.”

Self-marriage or ‘sologomy’ is on the rise, and it turns out it’s not a new notion. Carrie Bradshaw once floated the idea in Sex And The City after being ‘shoe shamed’ by a married mother, she ended up registering and have no fear, she got her shoes back RIGHTFULLY.

It’s an interesting and quite literal concept with some people choosing to wear a nose ring as a symbol of commitment. Many are open to relationships and marriage if they meet the right person, so perhaps it is a not-so-subtle two fingers up to society.

So, if you’re in and around the thirty mark and the ‘single’ questions are flying in… consider it an option.

At least you wouldn’t have to share any cake.
