Met Éireann has issued a status yellow snow and ice warning for the whole of Ireland.
According to the forecaster there will be wintry showers across the country today. These will become more widespread this evening.
The warning was issued this morning and is in effect until tomorrow afternoon (3.00pm on Saturday 17th January).
Tonight will see a mixture of showers (sleet and snow) and clear spells. Lowest temperatures will be between zero and minus 3 degrees.
Tomorrow is expected to be bitterly cold leading to severe frost and icy stretches. The wintry showers will continue especially in the northern areas.
Sunday will be similar with more wintry showers and cold conditions, bringing a risk of severe frost and freezing fog.
Drivers should take extra care on untreated surfaces.
