Miss Ireland Organisers Launch First Ever ‘Miss Personality’ Contest

Could we all be one step closer to being named Miss Congeniality?

In a first for the Miss Ireland beauty pageant, a search for the inaugural Miss Personality finalist was launched this morning on 2fm’s Tubridy Show.

The competition, which will see the winner go forward as a finalist in the Miss Ireland competition in July, is the brainchild of Miss Ireland competition organisers, Brendan Scully and Sean Montague, and is “designed to illustrate how beauty is so much more than skin deep”.

The Miss Personality competition will produce the first ever Miss Ireland finalist in the 67 year history of the pageant who will be solely judged on personality and personal traits, rather than on any assessment of physical beauty.

The competition will focus on personality, wit and intelligence, with physical appearance being in no way a determining factor.  Judged ‘on the radio’ following a series of interviews by Ryan Tubridy, the Miss Personality finalist is also unique in relying on a public vote to secure her place in the national final.

Brendan Scully said: “With no real names used, and no opportunity to identify what the entrants look like ahead of the final, each girl must depend on her wits and wisdom to win over the public vote.  2fm has supported us all the way in this new initiative, and we are delighted to have Ryan Tubridy help our entrants express their true personalities in this new Miss Ireland vote”.

The Miss Personality competition is open to all young women across the country, provided they comply with the terms and conditions outlined by the Miss World corporation. A panel of Miss Ireland and 2fm judges will select candidates for interview on the Tubridy Show, a move that aims to encourage girls who may have felt too self-conscious to put themselves forward for the usual on-stage heats.

Finalists will then be interviewed by Ryan Tubridy in studio, before the public gets to vote for their Miss Personality winner via text, to be finally revealed on Friday 30th May.

Past winners of the competition include Rosanna Davison, Amanda Brunker, Pamela Flood, Andrea Roche, Holly Carpenter and Sarah Morrisey.

The 2fm Miss Personality winner for 2014 will receive a luxury hamper from the pageant’s headline sponsor Mane n Tail, a makeover by a celebrity stylist, and a hair and make-up consultation, before going on to compete for the crown in the gala Miss Ireland final in Dublin on July 19th next.
