Muslim parents who killed their 19-year-old daughter for having sex with someone they disapproved of have received life sentences.
Azadullah and Shazia murdered their daughter Lareeb Khan in an “honour-killing” because they feared the fact that she had slept with her boyfriend would bring shame on the family.
Her father Azadullah carried out the murder by attacking her in the middle of the night and strangling her, while her mother Shazia watched.
They then placed Lareeb’s body in her grandmother’s wheelchair and wheeled her out of the apartment before driving to a deserted embankment to dump the body.
The pair had recently learned of Lareeb’s relationship with 23-year-old man named Raheel when police issued a warning letter saying that she had been caught trying to steal condoms.
According to The Metro, Lareeb’s mother Shazia, said she didn’t intervene during the murder because she was too scared of her husband.
However, Judge Wagner said: “You feared being shunned by the community if it got out that your daughter had slept with her boyfriend.
“It was worth killing your daughter for. A woman cannot be so physically weak that she doesn’t intervene in the murder of her own daughter and instead watches it for five minutes.”
The trial was heard at the State Court in Darmstadt, Germany.
