It has been revealed that the panicking 26-year-old Blade Runner Oscar Pistorius rang his friend just seconds after he allegedly shot his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
“My baba, I’ve killed my baba, God take me away,” he sobbed down the phone to his friend Justin Divaris, the Irish Sun reports.
Justin told how he sped to Pistorius’s luxury home and said the star cried for an hour in his garage as police sealed off the property.
It was revealed last night that Reeva, 29, was sitting on the toilet when she was hit four times, in the arm, head, hip and finger by bullets fired through the bathroom door.
Pistorius carried her body to the front door and was trying to save her with CPR when a security guard and neighbour arrived, alerted by the gunshots.
Reeva died in his arms moments later at the house on the security-patrolled Silver Woods estate in Pretoria, South Africa.
Oscar’s businessman friend Justin had introduced Reeva to the Olympics star Pistorius.
He said: “It’s all very sad. Oscar called me at 3.55am saying that Reeva had been shot. I said, ‘What are you talking about? I don’t understand’. He repeated himself, ‘There’s been a terrible accident, I shot Reeva’.
“Next thing his neighbour picked up the phone and told me it was true and told me to get to Oscar’s home.
“I was in total shock. I asked the neighbour, ‘Is she OK? Did the gun go off by accident’? She said, ‘No. She’s not OK. You need to get here’.”
Justin, 27, and his girlfriend Sam arrived at the house just after the police.
“It was very traumatic. It was already a crime scene and we were not allowed in the house.
“But we could see Reeva through the door lying covered in blankets and towels. Oscar was being detained in the garage but they let me speak to him.
“He was totally incoherent and just kept saying, ‘My baba, I’ve killed my baba. God take me away’. He must have been sobbing there for an hour.
“I was with him ten minutes and asked exactly what happened but he couldn’t answer and just kept repeating the same thing.”
Forensic experts are convinced Reeva’s heart was still pumping as she was carried through the house because blood was splattered on the walls.
A source in South Africa said last night: “A neighbour and a security guy were the first to arrive at the scene and found a real house of horror.
“Pistorius was standing in the doorway with Reeva dying in his arms when they got there.
“There was a great deal of blood and they were convinced Reeva was still alive at that point when Pistorius was giving her the kiss of life. But she died soon after. The guys said they heard her death rattle when she drew her last breath.”
Pistorius wept in court on Friday as he was charged with Reeva’s murder and locked in a cell at Pretoria’s Brooklyn Police Station, where he was on suicide watch.
His agent said after the 40-minute hearing that Pistorius “disputed” the murder charge “in the strongest terms”.
Doctors are treating Reeva’s parents June and Barry for shock.
Barry admitted he and June “were at a complete loss”, but said he felt for Pistorius. He said: “He must be going through things we don’t know about.
“There is no hatred in our hearts. This is a very difficult time for us. We need to find answers. We ask the Lord every day to help us find a reason why this should happen to Reeva.
“She was the most beautiful, kind girl in the world.”
