According to the study, researchers investigated whether a romantic-sexual kiss was part of the lifestyle for couples in the 169 different cultures of the world.
And while we might assume most people prefer a little lip on lip action, you’re in the minority if you do with just 46 per cent of cultures enjoying a kiss.
Even more interesting is the fact that the kiss had nothing to do with geographical location, but depended greatly on the conservativeness of a culture, religious group or ethnicity.
The authors of the study noted that some cultures deemed kissed ‘unclean’, ‘unpleasant’ and ‘not protective of the body’.
So how do these cultures enjoy the early days of seduction?
P.h.D. student Shelly Volsche said:
"There is also something called the oceanic kiss in which two people pass their open mouths near each other but do not make contact."
Other techniques include sniffing each other and brushing arms.
