On Home Ground: Her.ie Takes On The Kilkenny Camogie Team

In our brand new series, our resident sports fanatic Mary takes on some of Ireland’s top female athletes to see if she has what it takes to compete with the best.

From chatting about their rigorous training programmes to taking us on to the pitch and right into the middle of the action, some of Ireland’s biggest names show Her.ie how it’s done.

Last week, we tried our hand at gaelic football – as Gaeilge, while this week we headed to Kilkenny, the home of hurling, to try our hand at camogie.

Mary says:

The last time I tried to play camogie I broke my thumb and was in plaster for a good while so you can imagine my nervousness heading down to the home of hurling, Kilkenny, to try it out.

The stars of the camogie team, who are really making their mark on this year’s championship, were certainly training hard ahead of their games and though we tried our best to keep up with them, camogie is definitely an acquired skill!

Nonetheless, we did manage to get some of the skills down and it’s certainly one we’d go back and try again.
