An online appeal to raise funds for families affected by the Buncrana tragedy has been launched today.

The remains of Sean McGrotty, 49, his sons Mark, 12, and Evan, 8, his mother-in-law Ruth Daniels, 59, and her daughter, Jodie Lee, 14, who tragically died when their vehicle slipped into Lough Swilly from a pier in Buncrana, arrived home in Derry today.

Buncrana resident Michelle Black set up a crowdfunding page, writing: “There’s no words we can say or anything we can do to change what happened … But what we can do is help show our support to the family of the victims x.”

The page has raised more than 90% of its target in less than 24 hours.

Four-month-old baby girl Rionaghac-Ann is the sole survivor of the tragedy, after being saved from the vehicle by a passerby, Davitt Walsh.
