An online petition has been launched appealing for the Queen to award teenage cancer patient Stephen Sutton a knighthood.

Sutton, who has been publicly battling his cancer for years, has actively campaigned for awareness of the disease, raising over £3million for charity since his diagnosis three years ago.

The terminally ill teenager has astounded people with his bravery and determination – and now thousands are calling for his hard work to be recognised.

More than 27,000 people have already signed the petition on Change.org with supporters from the UK, Cyprus, Qatar, and Australia campaigning to see the young man awarded the honour.

Stephen, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer three years ago, posted a heartbreaking farewell to his followers two weeks ago.

The 19 year old’s condition has since stabilised after he coughed up a tumour, and he updated the public through Facebook that he was discharged from hospital last week.
