This is how to know if you’ve been ‘orbited’ by the person you fancy

Olivia Hayes

‘Orbiting’ is a b*tch.

And when you find out what it is, you’ll think it’s not-a-very-nice-person either.

We all know ghosting is the worst. It’s when your chatting to someone, maybe meet them a couple of times, kissed them, whatever… and then all of a sudden they stop replying to you – basically ghosting.

They’re gone. Into the distance and never to return.

That’s where orbiting comes in. Orbiting, is when the person ghosts you… and then continues to look at your Instagram stories, your Snapchats, and might even like one or two of your photos.

Ugh.

The new dating term was apparently coined by writer Anna Iovine from Man Repeller. She tried to describe it as being “close enough to see each other; far enough to never talk.”

And yep, we get it. It can be heartbreaking having to see them around, yet they never utter another word to you.

The article goes on to say that there’s only three reasons why someone will ‘orbit’ you.

1, it’s a power move. They want to feel like they’re in control, or else want to be friendly with you in case you ever run into each other at a party, etc.

2, they simply don’t know what they’re doing.

Or 3, they want to keep things open in case… you know, you both find yourself alone at some point in the future and they want to bang.

So yeah, there you have it.
