Our Woman Of The Week Is Iris Mulvany, Winner Of A €100 Littlewoods Voucher

We all have special ladies in our lives who deserve to be celebrated.

Maybe you don’t see them every day but they are always at the end of the phone when you need to talk, and somehow they always seems to know the right thing to say, no matter what the situation.

These women deserve a treat and together with Littlewoods Ireland, we would like to make sure they look after themselves instead of worrying about others for once.

This week, the winner of a €100 Littlewoods Ireland voucher is Iris Mulvany.

Iris was nominated by her daughter Gillian who tells us, in her own words, why Iris deserves to be our woman of the week.

“I nominate my mam for woman of the week.

“She has always showed nothing but love support and encouragement to me. She has had such a hard life, losing her dad as a baby. My grandmother reared her own five children and her brothers two children in a small three-bed house in Marino.

“Mam married Dad almost 50 years ago this September. She lost her first child at three months to CF and her second child also suffered with CF and died at 29 just 18 years ago.

“Even though the risk was high that all children she bore would have CF, she still was brave enough to go on and have me and my younger sister. She has lived through the loss of her four older sisters which I know was incredibly difficult for her. She took care of her mother until she died in 1990.

“My mam took care of my older two children while I worked. In 2009 she went through a period of ill health; two knee replacements were followed by breast cancer in 2010, ovarian cancer in 2011 and heart disease in 2014, when she almost died during a procedure to unblock an artery in her heart.

“Despite all of this she fought back and is my dad’s full-time carer. He has dementia and sometimes doesn’t even know who she is. Up until dad’s dementia she was a strong person in the community, helping out in the church on the funeral team. I am so proud of my mam for all she has been through and how she has always fought back and is always there to help someone in need.

“She is and remains a strong supportive person in my life and a doting grandmother.”

We really hope Iris enjoys her Littlewoods Ireland gift, and if you have someone in mind for our Woman Of The Week, please get in touch.

Readers should submit their entries to [email protected] along with an image of their nominated woman.
